My Major In Criminal Justice

There are many career paths to take in the criminal justice field. Each career goes into the three branches of the criminal justice field: law enforcement, the courts, and corrections. Which goes into the criminal justice majors: police detective, prosecutor, defense attorney, police officer, state trooper, FBI agent, and forensics science. Although, there are many more majors in the criminal justice field to choose from. My main three majors: forensic science, police detective, and FBI agent. I never had my mind set on one specific major until I lost my older brother. The reason for that is because I would want to be able to help those in need of justice for their lost ones.


Some may think “What does losing your brother have anything to do with your career major?” To be completely honest, when something tragic happens in your life; it takes a big toll on your life. In my case, going through this process with the courts and detectives, it is extremely hard to comprehend everything. In addition, it makes it harder to know I have to go day by day without my brother and to not see him or talk to him. I still do not believe he is gone, and there is still many questions left unanswered about what exactly happened. Which leads to the major I have set my mind to; forensic science.

Forensic science is where the scientist collects evidence, exams the scene, and analysis of what may have took place at the crime scene. With this being said, my brothers case was a horrible crime scene. My brother was hit by a car inside a little park area. Investigators reenacted what may have happened the night he was murdered and the story did not add up to what the suspect was saying that happened. This showed me that people to who claim one thing is not always true. Which is why there needs to be investigation to every crime scene to figure out the truth of each crime. I think forensic science is the major for me justice because of what I have been through and experienced. Although, everyone has their own story to tell and their own reasons to why they choose the major they chosen.

There are many positions in the criminal justice field, more than people may think because they all work together in different ways during the process of going through a case. Individuals who go into the criminal justice field have their mind set on one specific position. People chose that position because it is something that interest them or it is something that they have encountered at some point in life. My Story

Growing up crime shows have always interested me. I liked watching Criminal Minds, Law & Order Special Victims Unit, and Blue Bloods. They are very interesting to watch and you learn a lot from watching them. My parents got divorced when I was young and we were in and out of the courts constantly because of my step dad making accusations against my mom. My step dad even tried to have me and my brothers go against my mom and would brainwash us with lies. As time went by we started to realize all he was doing and that he was telling lies just because he had anger and hate against my mom because she had found someone else. He took it out on us, he was never their as a father figure for us, he was just there because he was getting child support money from my mom.
