Roles of The Criminal Justice System

There are many positions in the criminal justice field, more than people may think because they all work together in different ways during the process of going through a case. Individuals who go into the criminal justice field have their mind set on one specific position. People chose that position because it is something that interest them or it is something that they have encountered at some point in life. In the article, The Criminal Justice System, Tirado states that “The criminal justice system is the set of agencies and processes establishment by governments to control crime and impose penalties on those who violate laws” (Tirado). The set of agencies that work together in the criminal justice system help one another to gather evidence when the law is broken by individuals or a group.
The different type of positions in the criminal justice system are law enforcement officers, prosecutors, defense attorneys, judges, and correction officers to name a few which work directly inside the courtroom when there is a set date for hearings or trial. Although there is a long process when dealing with the courts when a law is broken. There are many steps to take before the actual trial is set or when the judges says if the defendant will serve time for the law that was broken. When going through this long process the one who is hurt and confused through it all is the victim. Tirado states, “The criminal justice system can be overwhelming, intimidating, and confusing for anyone who does not work within it everyday” (Tirado). Victims often need to find their own help or own research to see what is the process of the case. In some cases victims know the process because they know someone who has been through it or they have been through it or have been involved with the courts. Although, victims should always know their rights as a victim and to do their research or reach out for help when you are lost throughout the process of the case. Works Cited

My Story

Growing up crime shows have always interested me. I liked watching Criminal Minds, Law & Order Special Victims Unit, and Blue Bloods. They are very interesting to watch and you learn a lot from watching them. My parents got divorced when I was young and we were in and out of the courts constantly because of my step dad making accusations against my mom.
