When a Crime is Committed

There are many steps that are involved when going through the process of when a crime is taken place depending on the type of crime. There are many challenges to face going through this process. These are the main steps that are taken place when it comes down to when a crime is committed.
  1. The first that will happen is the initial investigation. Which is when the crime is investigated by the law enforcement agency.
  2. The second step is the formal charge and procedure. Which is when a prosecutor will file a direct complaint or get a grand jury indictment.
  3. The third step is the initial appearance. Which is when the defendant goes before a judge and the judge informs the defendant what they are being accused of.
  4. The fourth step the arraignment. Which is when the defendant is informed of the charges against them.
  5. The fifth step is the status conference. Which is when the defendant and the prosecutor get together and see if they can reach a plea agreement.
  6. The sixth step is the preliminary hearing. Which is when the prosecutor presents the evidence to the judge and the judge determines if the defendant should stand trial.
  7. The seventh step is the pretrial conference. Which is when the prosecutor and the defense attorney get together to discuss if the case is going to trial or if it is going to be resolved.
  8. The eighth step is the trial. Which is when no plea agreement was reached and the prosecutor and the defense get to present their case before a judge and a grand jury.
  9. The ninth step is sentencing. Which is when the judge determines how much time the defendant will serve because he/she has plead guilty or found guilty.

Plea Agreement - Defendant agrees to plead guilty to some or all the charges against them in exchange for compromise from the prosecutors.

Grand Jury - People selected to examine the logic of an accusation before trail.

My Story

Growing up crime shows have always interested me. I liked watching Criminal Minds, Law & Order Special Victims Unit, and Blue Bloods. They are very interesting to watch and you learn a lot from watching them. My parents got divorced when I was young and we were in and out of the courts constantly because of my step dad making accusations against my mom. My step dad even tried to have me and my brothers go against my mom and would brainwash us with lies. As time went by we started to realize all he was doing and that he was telling lies just because he had anger and hate against my mom because she had found someone else. He took it out on us, he was never their as a father figure for us, he was just there because he was getting child support money from my mom.
